Chronological Work Experience

Tarragon Oil and Gas Ltd.

Joined Tarragon in September 1989 with the company having a market cap of approximately $20 million. With Joe Rotman as Chairman and me as CEO, we built the company so that 9 years later, it was acquired by Marathon Oil Company of Houston for $1.5 billion. This translates into a compounded growth rate of 55% per annum.

Four of the key building blocks along the way were:
1. Discovered Neutral Hills Dina oil pool.
2. Acquired Jumpbush oil pool from PetroCanada and promptly increased production from 145 to over 2,000 bopd.
3. Acquired Strike Energy Ltd. In order to acquire a specific oil pool where we initiated one of Western Canada’s first SAGD projects.
4. Acquired the Canadian assets of Unocal even though we were not on their approved list of potential acquisition companies. (9 years)

Sceptre Resources Ltd.

Joined Sceptre Resources as Executive Vice President. This was my first real exposure to the financial side of the business and the investment community in general. I was the direct report for all the Vice Presidents, so essentially functioned as the Chief Operating Officer. (2 ½ years)

Geocrude Energy Ltd.

I remained as Vice President, Operations when Geocrude (another Joe Rotman company) merged with PanCana. I was also made ex-officio member of the Board of Directors where I could participate in discussions but could not vote. (2 ½ years)

Canada Northwest Energy Inc.

When CNWE acquired Geocrude, I was promoted to General Manager, Canada, where my first undertaking was to transform the division into an efficient and motivated value creator. This involved restructuring the organization and terminating about one third of the work force. I was later promoted to Operations Vice President, Worldwide which included production in Spain and Italy. (1 year)

PanCana Industries Ltd.

The 5 employees of Pentagon were hired by Joseph L. Rotman, principal owner of PanCana, to run the company. As Vice President, Operations, I was responsible for all the operating/ engineering functions within the company plus a heap leaching gold extraction operation in Nevada (later bought by Barrick Gold Corp.) (2 years)

Pentagon Energy

Formed this private company with 4 other former Mesa employees when Mesa’s Canadian operations were bought by Dome Petroleum. Pentagon was a grass roots exploration company where, as their Operations Manager, I was their sole operations/ engineering presence. (1 year)

Mesa Canada Ltd.

When ARCAN was taken over by Petro Canada, I went to Mesa as their Engineering Manager. Later promoted to Operations Manager which included the engineering function, where we aggressively developed shallow gas fields in Northern Alberta with as many as 15 gas plants under construction at any one time. (3 ½ years)

Atlantic Richfield Canada Ltd.

Various engineering assignments primarily oriented towards reservoir studies. Part of a highly confidential team evaluating Prudoe Bay, Alaska. Involved in the integration of Sinclair Oil personnel into ARCO but chose to return to Canada rather than moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Sinclair’s head offices were located. (8 ½ years)
